At Registered Service Dogs we make every effort to help keep you informed as to what are your rights and how we serve to protect them. Please don't hesitate to contact us if you have any questions that we have not answered.

What are my rights in regards to my service animal?

Under the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), businesses and organizations that serve the public must allow people with disabilities to bring their service animals into all areas of the facility where customers are normally allowed to go.

This federal law applies to all businesses open to the public, including restaurants, hotels, taxis and shuttles, grocery and department stores, hospitals and medical offices, theaters, health clubs, parks, and zoos

What is a service dog?

A service dog is a dog that is trained to provide a valid medical function for the individual owner. This function can be for a number of medical necessities that are required by the owner. Some of these functions are:

→ A seeing eye dog
→ A hearing dog for the hearing impaired
→ A dog that can perform certain functions such as informing the owner when she/he is past due on taking medications, when he/she is beginning to have a change in a medical condition, alerting a spouse/companion to a upcoming medical problem, reducing stress caused by certain environments, etc.

Is a service dog is not a pet?

While a service dog can also be your pet a service dog must comply with the medical requirements outlined by the law. A dog that does not perform a medical function cannot be considered as a service dog.

Must a service dog be licensed?

Individual companies such as Registered Service Dogs cannot issue a license to your dog. Only government agencies can issue a ”License”. However, a company such as ours can issue a “Certificate” to your dog which is totally legal and binding.

You are NOT required by law to have a card/patch/registration/etc. for your dog. Unfortunately, many business owners and Airlines do not understand the guidelines set forth in the American with Disabilities Act, and because of this continue to refuse service.

Simply put...the card is provided not because you need, by law, to have it. The Card is provided because businesses and organizations errantly assume you need one. This card simplifies your life while giving business owners "Peace of Mind".

What makes your card different?

Registered Service Dogs requires that you get two simple forms filled out. These are:

→ A form to be signed by your doctor stating that you need a service dog for medical reasons.
→ A form to be filled out by your veterinarian stating that your dog is up to date with all necessary shots. Also, in the best determination of the Veterinarian your dog is not vicious and is not a danger to the public.

By filling out these two forms our company (Registered Service Dogs) will be able to issue you a Service Dog Certificate. While this certificate is certainly not required by law it will become a valuable resource in helping insure businesses and orgainizations maintain compliance to the law.

What Exactly do I get when I sign up for your service?

With your registration and certification you will recieve a Personalized PVC ID Tag, a Certificate of Compliance, and a Colorful Iron-On Patch for your service dog. Additional patches available on request.

Can people refuse to honor my Service Dogs certification?

No! Federal Law as set forth in the Americans With Disabilities Act precludes the public from refusing to honor your dog's certificate. In fact, you are not required to inform the public of what your disability is! This also extends to informing the public of what function your Service Dog performs.

Is there any reason people can refuse to honor my card?

A...You are responsible for the training and manners of your dog while in public. If your dog is barking in a theater or restaurant and/or is otherwise making a nuisance of it’s self then the owner of that establishment can ask you to either leave or to remove your dog from this public establishment.
